The Environmental Services Department of Oshodi-Isolo local government have secured the conviction of 3 miscreants that were found of obscrupting the operations of the local government officials during the discharge of their duties.
It should be recalled that some staff of Environmental Services of the council were attacked at Araromi market while trying to enforce the ban on illegal street trading and hawking that was directed by the executive chairman of the council, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede.
On hearing of such negative development, the chairman was visibly angry and had to physically visit the market to engage the traders and the market management. He also called for the arrest of the thugs and directed that they should be charged to court immediately.
The thugs that were arrested and charged include Akin Ekerin (45) for incitment, Soliq Mukaila (28) and Soliq Lasisi (20) for obscruption of duties. They were brought to court for violating Section 151 of Environment Management Protection Law of Lagos State.
After being confronted with overwhelming evidence and the diligence prosecution, the 3 suspects had no choice but to plead guilty to each of the count charges. Following section 131(3) of Environmental Management Protection Law of Lagos State, the president of the Modupe Ariyo Customary Court, Mrs Funmilayo Ogunsowo, sentenced the first accused, Akin Ekerin, to six months imprisonment or an option of #50,000 fine.
She also sentenced Sodiq Mukaila and Sodiq Lasisi to One month imprisonment or pay fine of #40,000 each. Otunba Oloyede however insisted that he will not rest on his oars until Oshodi is rid of miscreants, noting that his administration will not condole indiscipline and illegality.
