The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in conjunction with the Oshodi-Isolo local government has empowered residents of the council with various vocational tools.

The empowerment programme which was sponsored by the NPA and chairman of Oshodi-Isolo local government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, is meant to reduce and alleviate poverty in the community.

Oloyede who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Hon Leke Banjoko, said the council partners the organisation to ensure that efforts Oloyede's administration is putting in place to reduce poverty within the council through empowerement programme is achieved.

He said; "We have partnered the NPA to bring to limelight part of our plans for youth empowerment through vocational training and empowerment is acheieved. This is just one of the ways to empower our people. They have been given various vocational tools such as sewing machines, griding machines and hair dryers among others."

Spekaing at the programme, the senior manager of corporate and strategy communications of NPA, Mr Peter Ebuele said the gesture is part of the organisation's corporate social responsibility (CSR). 

Ebuele urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the vocational tools given to them to their benefit which will in turn bring the desired development in the society.

Also speaking, the leader of the Oshodi-Isolo local government legislative arm, Hon Rasheed Obasa, appreciated the organisation's effort and the council chairman for having the people at heart.

Obasa also urged the beneficiaries to used the tools for their lots and ensure they use to become employers of labour in the nearest future. 

One of the beneficiaries, Olajumoke Ayo, thanked the council chairman for lifting them out of poverty and joblessness through the provision of the vocational tools promising that it will be judiciously used.
