The Ansarudeen society of Nigeria, Oshodi chapter, has paid a working visit to the Legislative Arm of the Oshodi-Isolo local government. The group which were led by their Branch Adviser, Alhaji Moshood Akintunde Zakariya who is also the immediate past chairman of the association were received by the leader of the house, Hon. Rasheed Obasa.
The house leader introduced the lawmakers to the guests while welcoming them to the Legislative Chamber of the Council.
The Majority Leader of the house, Hon. Azeez Jayeola briefed the religious group on their modus operandi and that apart from law making, they also perform other functions ranging from over-sight function, budget defense, working in synergy with the executives to ensuring smooth operations of governance among others.
Jaiyeola whose briefing the group disclosed that some of the bye-laws they had debated and passed into law include Child Right Law, Child Abuse Prohibition Law, environmental and security laws amongst others.
Alh. Zakariya appreciated the lawmakers for receiving them and running them through their legislative activities. He eulogized the council chairman, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, for his efforts on infrastructural development within the local government noting that everyone is happy with his administration.
He disclosed that the essence of their visit, as a member of the society, was to interact with the lawmakers and give their suggestions on certain areas on governance. He stressed that the council chairman should continue in the area of youth training and empowerment because an idle hand is the devil's workshop.
He said; "if the youths are engaged, they would not have the time to engage in criminal activities". He also pleaded with the lawmakers to always extend the benefits of their programmes to the Ansarudeen society so that their members can also benefit.
The clergyman continued that as a religious group, they have also been supporting their members by giving them soft loans without interest, buying of tricycles and mini buses as a form of empowerment, to their members. He urged the government to provide alternative to the okada that has just been banned in the local government because of its effects on the masses.
Alhaji Zakariyah used the avenue to introduced the new Chief Imam Abdulwaheed Abdulkareem Adeniran, that has just been transferred to their mosque to the lawmakers.
Hon. Obasa while responding disclosed that the ban on okada is for the greater good of all because there are so many accidents occasioned by the reckless driving of some Okada riders.
Obasa implored people to persevered because the government took the decision while considering the larger good. He promised to relate their goodwill messages to the chairman and asked for their continued support.
Deputy Leader of the house, Hon. Femi Mustapha, disclosed that the house is currently working on bill that would further strengthen the security of lives and properties within the local government.
While also speaking, Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Temitope Ige, implored the clerics to intensify efforts on ensuring that each home properly trained their children. She observed that good home etiquettes should be hammered during their preachings.
On his part, the councillor representing Afariogun Ward, Hon Wasiu Faluade urged the group to also partnered the government in training and empowering residents because the government alone can not provide all the expected amenities.
Other personalities present include the councillor representing Mafoluku Ward, Hon. Kazeem Abayomi, Ansarudeen Treasurer - Alhaji Ganiyu Taiwo, Financial Secretary - Alhaji Ibrahim Olusegun Etiko.
Others include Chairperson of Women Committee - Alhaja Olarenwaju, Secretary of Women Committee - Alhaja Mufliat Akamo, Vice Chairperson of Women Committee - Alhaja Princess Aramide Adeyanju, and Treasurer of women committee - Alhaja Shakirat Aregbe.
