In fulfillment of his electoral promises to focus on youth development through vocational training, empowerment and strategic partnership, Oshodi-isolo local government through its United Nations Development (UNDP) office has collaborated with the Rotary Club of Ewutuntun to train and empower 1,000 youths of the council in various skills.
The council boss represented by his vice Mrs Modupe Badmus-Aregbe said the training programme would make the participants self-sufficient and self-reliant.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony and presentation of empowerment tools which was conducted at the legislative hall of the local government, Oloyede thanked the Rotary for partnering the local government to empower the youths.
He charged the youths to utilise the opportunity of the training and ensure they make judicious use of the training Empowerment given to them.
The vice chairman also shared her experience about the vocational skill she learned and how she has been able to convert the skill to money making machine. She disclosed that there is no knowledge that is lost and that the graduants should go out and make exploit.
The President of the Rotary Club of Ewutuntun, Rtr. Kudirat Olaopoola, who was represented by the immediate past president of the club, Rtr. Oloyede. The president noted that Rotary Club is a non-profit organization aimed at positively impacting the society and ensuring that humanity is well taken care of.
She disclosed that the partnership between the council and Rotary is perfect collaboration that will benefit the general populace.
The wife of the chairman, Mrs Fadekemi Oloyede, while speaking, appreciated the club for the partnership and urged the graduants and beneficiaries of the empowerment to make the best use of the skills they have learnt and the tools they have been given.
The International Rotary District 9110 Governor, Rtr. Omotunde Lawnson, noted that the collaboration between Rotary and Oshodi-Isolo local government is a perfect partnership while describing the initiative as genius. She promised to sponsor more of such programs using her good office in the future.
Lawson appreciated the all inclusiveness of the training saying it is a life long training that no one can take away from them.
She said; "I am happy to see that over a thousand youths have been trained and empowered with various skills that no one can take away from them. This is an all inclusive training, in the sense that all persons include the disable were participants of the training."
Also lending their voices to the program were the Secretary to the local government, Hon. Smart Akinleye, and the Chief of Staff, Hon. Leke Banjoko, they both urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of their skills and not just remain dormant. They urged other NGOs to emulate Rotary Club of Ewutuntun in partnering with the local government for the benefit of the people.
The UNDP Coordinator Mr Afeez Adesanya thanked God, the council chairman and Rotary President for the success of the programme.
Adesanya said the UNDP will continue to explore all means possible to keep training the youths in a move to fulfill the electoral promises of the local government chairman and also to serve as a tool for eradication of poverty and means to become self employed and sustainance further youths within the council.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the local government chairman on Education, Hon Ajoke Onitolo thanked the Rotary for partnering the council in training of the teeming youths. She urged them to channel their energy towards proper use of the training they have received.
The youths who were trained in various skills such as Computer engineering, Digital Marketing, Fashion designing, Hair Making, Make up and Gele, Facinator (hat making) and catering were presented with tools according to their acquired skill.
Beneficiaries took turn to thank the local government and the Rotary club for the opportunity.
