2023 Tree Planting Day: Oshodi-Isolo Council Chair, Oloyede Plants a Tree, Calls for Eco-friendly Way of living

The executive chairman of Oshodi-Isolo local government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede has joined his counterparts across the state by observing this years' "Tree Planting Day" by planting a tree within the council secretariat.

The council chairman who was represented by his vice, Hon. Mrs. Modupe Badmus-Aregbe, noted in his keynote address that the benefits of trees to "our atmosphere are enormous; ranging from purification of the atmospheric air to reduction in the emission of carbon dioxide".

He noted that day in, day out, we continue the use of substances that negatively impact our environment and cause great havoc to our atmosphere.

He observed that this year's theme which is "Let's Green Our Cities" is very apt not only because of the biological sequestration roles the tress perform by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen but also of the beautification and medicinal purposes they serve.

He called for a more eco-friendly ways of living through reduction in the use of fossil fuels, total stoppage of discharging toxic waste from pharmaceutical companies, bush burning and other activities that are harmful to the atmosphere.

He said; "we are here again today to commemorate this year's tree planting day. Trees are very useful to us and without them, we can't survive. I call for stoppage of tree felling, rather, we should be planting even more. We should embrace eco-friendly ways of living by stopping bush burning, felling of trees and unnecessary burning of fossil fuels."

The highlight of the short but colourful program was planting of trees in the council secretariat by the chairman represented by his vice.

Other members present include the Chief of Staff, Hon. Leke Banjoko, Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Femi Ajayi, Special Adviser on Media, Information and ICT, Hon. Tobi Salako, community leaders, staff members and host of others.
