Building Collapse: Oshodi-Isolo LG Partners LASBCA to prevent menace

 


The Executive Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo local government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede has disclosed that the local government will work towards eradicating the menace of building collapse through strategic partnership with relevant agencies, particularly the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA)

The partnership was revealed when the LASBCA awareness team led by their Assistant Chief Architect, Supervisory Director, Oshodi District, Arc. Obadinu A.O., paid him a working visit in his Oyetayo office on Thursday. 

Arc. Obadinu noted that they were at the chairman's office to pay homage and also register their presence. She disclosed that they were currently doing awareness within the Oshodi district, hence their visit to the chairman. 

She further disclosed that in order to stop the unfortunate incidents of building collapse in Lagos, the agency is embarking on general awareness and also implementing more stringent measures towards ensuring that the buildings in Lagos are fit, secure and habitable for occupants. She stated that LASBCA is in charge of issuing Letter of Authorisation to commence work, monitoring and certification of various stages of building construction, issuance of Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation as well as identification and removal of distressed and non-conforming buildings.

Otunba Oloyede, while receiving the team appreciated their efforts towards having a safer Lagos and applauded their services, particularly within the local government. He revealed that Oshodi-Isolo local government has not recorded any building collapse and he intends to keep it that way because the lives and properties of the residents are topmost on his mind.


Oloyede further disclosed that he would set up a small team that would collaborate the efforts of the agency within the local government. 


The team would equally move around and where ever they discover any building that is in distressed or not fit for habitation, they would report to the agency for appropriate action. 


The council helmsman equally appealed to residents to ensure that  they engage building professionals and not use sub-standard materials. 


He said; "Permit me to welcome you all to my office. I want to appreciate your efforts towards having a safer Lagos and putting a stop to the menace of building collapse. Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, gladly, has not recorded any building collapse and we intend to keep it that way because the lives and properties of our people are topmost in our hearts. 


"I urge our people to engage qualify building professionals and stop using sub-standard materials all in the name of trying to cut cost. We shall strategically partner with your agency in order to maintain our clean record."
