The executive chairman of Oshodi-Isolo local government, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede has promised to pay N10,000 to workers as a palliative measure as a result of the fuel subsidy removal and its resultant effect on the economy.
The council boss disclosed this on Wednesday at a workers forum held at the marriage registry of the local government secretariat.
Oloyede said he feels the pains the workers are feeling at the tough time saying he will, at every point in time, prioritize their welfare for an optimal performance at work and their daily lives.
The council honcho did not stop at that as he said he will add one more staff bus to the two they are using now to ease their transportation to and from office on daily basis.
While assuring them of his administration's determination to continue to prioritize the workers welfare, he appealed to them to ensure that they work harder to increase revenue generation of the council.
The council boss commended the leadership of the workers union, the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for putting together such wonderful programme, which afforded the management to have a robust engagement with the workforce.
He also praised the Council Manager for her steadfastness and believe in
his drive for a progressive Oshodi, declaring that since her assumption of office, there has been positive development as "she continues to support our drive for developed Oshodi."
According to him "let me thank our new CM for her believe in our drive for a better Oshodi, she is a good manager of men and resources. We have made so many positive moves for the good of the staff and I want to assure you that we will continue to give priority attention to your welfare. I can assure you that the health mission mentioned by the CM in her opening speech will be given accelerated approval by me"
"To further assuage the effect of fuel subsidy removal on our workers, we will be given the staff N10,000 as palliative to ease the challenges, we will also add one more bus to the two you are currently using to make life easier for you."
The council boss also said he will give accelerated approval to health screening exercise for the council workers while informing them that other plans are in top gear towards making available certain items, both for the staff and the general populace. The palliative items will be available in no time as efforts are on the way to make the distribution smooth."
Otunba Oloyede used the opportunity of the forum to call on contestants in the forthcoming NULGE election to embrace peace, stressing that it's only God that gives power to whom He wishes, promising that he will work in harmony with any leadership voted by the staff.
In her address at the forum, the Council Manager, Mrs Iyabode Abosede Ogunyemi appealed to workers to ensure they live within their resources, warning that she will not tolerate frivolous requests for financial support.
She stated that as a caring administrator, the constant health check of workers will be pursued so that early detection of ailments will be dealt with instead of resulting in untimely death.
She reiterated that workers should be their colleagues "keeper" as depression is real owing to the level of poverty in the land.
The Chairman of NULGE in the local government, Comrade Aliu Olagoroye in his welcome address disclosed that the workers forum is long overdue, but that it's happening is a significant improvement, urging the management to treat workers fairly.
