World Breastfeeding Week: Oshodi-Isolo Council Chair's Wife, Oloyede urges Exclusive Breastfeeding

 

In celebrating this year's world Breastfeeding Week and as a way of enlightening mothers on the immense benefits in properly and correctly breastfeeding their babies, the wife of the executive chairman of Oshodi-Isolo local government, Chief Mrs. Fadekemi Oloyede, has advocated for comprehensive breastfeeding for babies.

The epoch making programme which had in attendance notable personalities, both from the local government and the state, elaborately discussed what the mothers and their babies stand to gain in breastfeeding their babies. 

While giving her opening remarks, the chairman's wife noted that breast milk is the best and most complete meal for a new born baby.

She encouraged mothers to exclusively breast feed their babies for the first six months as the breast milk already contains all the nutrients the baby needs for growth and combating diseases. She also noted that the nutrients inside the breast milk will improve the immune system of the baby, protects them from serious diseases and infections. 

In her words; "we are here to commemorate this year's world Breastfeeding Week. I want to urge our mothers to exclusively breast feed their babies as both the mothers and their babies stand to gain alot from the exercise. Mothers should not mix the breast milk with anything for the first six months because it already contains everything the baby needs."

The vice chairman of the local government who also doubles as the supervisor for health, Hon. Mrs. Modupe Badmus-Aregbe while welcoming guests also encouraged mothers to take the health and wellbeing of their new born babies serious by properly breastfeeding them. 

Resource persons from Lagos State Primary Health Care Board equally itemized the benefits of breastfeeding to the mothers to include; reduction in the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, it's a good way of family planning, and also helps the woman's to return to normal after giving birth. 


The highlight of the colourful event include presentation of gift to the first baby of the year, presentation of surveniours to all the mothers present and giving out of free family planning tools. 

Other notable personalities include Hon. Temitope Ige (Hon. Councillor representing Ewu ward) Hon. Tobi Olabintan (Supervisor for Budget), Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, District Six, Dr. Mrs. Mabogunje, Council Manager, Princess Iyabode Ogunyemi, Alhaja Modinat Ibrahim (APC Woman leader) and host of others.
