In commemoration of basic education and literacy month, geared towards promoting sound academic excellence and art of public speaking, five notable Rotary clubs of Districts 9111 and 9112 have partnered to organised a debate competition amongst six secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria.
The joint partnership inter-school debate competition was jointly organised by Rotary Clubs of Ewutuntun, Gowon Estate, Isheri Golden, Beckley Estate and Dolphin Estate.
The joint partnership signalled the harmony that exist amongst the newly created Districts 9111 and 9112 and their desire to foster, as well as promote academic excellence amongst the secondary school students and in line with core areas of Rotary International.
Two students each were drawn from the selected schools and were asked to debate for or against on the topic :"Youth Delinquency: Are Parents To Blame ?". Judging the brilliant presentations of the students were PAG Yinka Adeosun and A.G. Yomi Owolabi.
Presidents of the participating clubs viz: Rotarian Bukola Alamu (RC Ewutuntun), Rtn Olayiwola Ajayi (RC Gowon Estate), Rtn Olori Adunni Abimbola (RC Isheri Golden), Rtn Folasade Akinsanya (RC Beckley Estate), Rtn OYEBOLA Adeyanju (RC Dolphin Estate District 9112) were all on ground to cheer the students on. They encouraged them to give their best and be a good student while reiterating that the future is there for those who can cease it.
Rotarian Stephen Ogundipe, member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly was equally on ground to charge the students on becoming a good ambassador of their respective homes.
After a keenly competed debates, the first position went to Ewutuntun Senior High School, the second and third positions as well as all other participating schools were equally given mouth watering prizes to encourage them all.
The Club Presidents promised to continue, both in their individual and collective, to prioritize education and other core areas of Rotary International.
