Rotary District 9111 Organizes Screening for Breast and Cervical Cancer

 

Rotary International District 9111 Committee on Disease Prevention and Treatment is organizing Cancer Awareness and Screening Mission between December 3 and 4, 2024 in both Lagos and Ogun States. 


According to Pioneer District Governor Rotary International District 9111, Rtn Dr Wole Kukoyi, the Chief Medical Director Ace Medicare Clinic Ota, Ogun State who disclosed that “the Cancer Mission features:Self Breast Examination; Cervical Smear; Public Lecture, Counseling sessions and medical consultations”.


Past Assistant Governor, Dr. Femi Oloyede, Chairman Disease Prevention and Treatment Committee stated that, “the Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness and Screening Mission is being organized in partnership with Women in Rotary (WIR), and the Lagos Screening session holds on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Rotary Centre, 8 Ladoke Akintola Street, Ikeja- GRA, Lagos between 8 am and 5 pm.  


Dr. Oloyede added that “the Cancer Screening in Abeokuta holds on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Rotary House, 2 Iredele Street, beside NIPCO Petrol Station, Abiola Way, Abeokuta between 8 am and 5 pm.”


In his words, “these two cancers are the commonest and the deadliest among all cancers. Fortunately, they are avoidable if beneficiaries are aware of them and get screened regularly.”


Oloyede urged “Women in Rotary, families of Rotarians, Spouses and female children and the general public are encouraged to register and benefit from the free screening for breast and cervical cancers.”


In her contribution, Rotarian Lara Akinsanya, Chairperson WIR stated that “ registration commenced October 22 and closes November 23, 2024. 


Rtn Akinsanya urged interested beneficiaries of Cancer Screening to contact Lagos Centre Coordinators: Rtn Dr. Barth Ufoegbunam on 0803 925 6954; Rtn Victoria Soyinka on 07051191028; and Rtn Folashade Akinsanya on 07051191028. 


She added that Abeokuta Screening Centre Coordinators to be contacted are: Rtn Dr. Festus Adetonwa on 07062243679;Rtn Catherine Oyekan- Ogundeji on 08035641216; and Rtn Gbenga Ashiru on 08039481685. 


Rtn Bimpe Quadri, Secretary, WIR appealed to Rotarians and non- Rotarians to encourage females within their immediate community to register before the deadline and help in curbing the spread of breast and cervical cancers by educating women and getting them screened for early detection for effective treatment.
